KIT TAYLOR is an award-winning professional pianist, producer, singer/songwriter, DJ, teacher, and recording artist currently based in Portland, Oregon. He has trained primarily under Professor Lonnie Cline, Bob Stark, and George Mitchell.
Professor Cline oversaw ‘Mainstream’, one of the most versatile contemporary choirs in the country. Out of Clackamas Community College, the choir and school produced some of todays finest musicians, including Jarrod Lawson, Paul Creighton, Jason Womack, Dan Gaynor, Jed Wilson, David Krueger, and many others.
George Mitchell was Kit’s piano teacher from 2008-09. Mitchell has been the keyboardist for the great Diana Ross for the last couple decades, and is one of the most gifted pianists in the world. He recently performed at the Obama White House.
Bob Stark is easily the most sought after producer in the Northwest. He has produced, co-written, and engineered artists such as Esperanza Spalding, Pink Martini, Everclear, and Taylor John Williams (NBC’s “The Voice).
Currently Kit performs regularly at venues such as the historic Benson Hotel and Portland City Grill, jazz staples Arrivederci and Jimmy Mak’s, as well as countless churches, parishes, and private venues. He is in the studio at the moment working on his debut full band release with the aforementioned Stark.
Kit regularly does session work on piano and background vocals both in person and over the cloud. He also produces new artists, and teaches piano and voice lessons at his studio just outside of Portland, OR.
Along with his solo performances, Kit is also co-founder of the pop, R&B and Christian group TSQUARED along with tenor Trevor James Dunn. The band has garnered over 30,000 views on Facebook in only a few months time. Check out their Facebook page here.
If you are looking for live or recorded music for your wedding, funeral, or event, Kit runs Apollo Weddings + Events for just that purpose. It’s the perfect gift for a loved one, or for use at a wedding or special event.
From 2003-2013 Kit played with the soul/pop band Intervision. The group was co-founded by Kit along with college classmates Paul Creighton (mentioned above), Mike Glidden, Jon Barber, and Tony Stovin, and over the years featured those five, along with other musical all-stars Josh Cliburn, Paul Mazzio (Nu Shooz), Willie Matheis (Cherry Poppin’ Daddies), and Damian Erskine (Gino Vinelli, Peter Erskine). The band toured the country, was featured on the front page of the Oregonian, sold out the Aladdin Theater multiple times, and shared the stage with groups like Lifehouse, The Neville Brothers, Little Richard, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, Tyrone Wells, Vicci Martinez (“The Voice), Justin Hopkins (“The Voice), Jarrod Lawson, Geoff Byrd (Hall & Oates), and many others.
In 2008 Kit and Intervision won the International Independent Music Award for ‘Best R&B Song’ for the track “Live Out Loud” off their sophomore album “Shades Of Neptune”. That album and others were produced and engineered by both Bob Stark and Dean Baskerville (Sheryl Crow). In the same year, the song was also chosen as a finalist in the JLSC (John Lennon Songwriting Contest).
Kit currently accompanies and directs the music at two well known churches, and in 2014 was the Director Of Music at one of the largest and busiest Catholic parishes in the state, The Madeleine (St. Mary Magdelene).
Other career highlights include a west coast tour with platinum pop artist AWOLNation; photoshoots with David Bergman (Bon Jovi, Barack Obama inauguration panorama) and Craig Mitchelldyer (Sports Illustrated, Portland Trail Blazers, Portland Timbers); and sharing the stage with the likes of cellist Dave Eggar (Phillip Phillips, Evanescence), members of Live, Kansas, and Blessed Union Of Souls, and multiple artists featured on hit TV shows like NBC’s ‘The Voice’ and FOX’s ‘American Idol’.
As a side project Kit provides advice on fitness and health. In 2014 he dropped 50 pounds in six month and got in fantastic shape.
